The modern day hero that i've chosen to show in my blog is one Derreck Kayongo. Derreck, a Uganda native, has started a project in which he collects the bars of soap that are thrown away from hotels and resorts. He shared his experience of how when he first came to America he stayed in a hotel in Philadelphia. He noticed that every morning his only once used bar of soap was replaced with a new bar. He tried to return the soap, but the concierge told him it was hotel policy to replace the soap. He was astounded by this, and thought to himself how he could use all this soap to protect the people of impoverished nations. So now he collects the discarded soaps and sends them to places such as Haiti, Uganda and Kenya, to help them combat diseases caused by poor sanitary conditions.
